LEYTON and Wanstead MP John Cryer has been rapped in parliament for calling all Liberal Democrats "prats".
The Labour member was warned over his language and ordered to retract the remark by Deputy Speaker Dawn Primarolo during a summer recess debate yesterday (Tuesday July 27).
Mr Cryer agreed and apologised, but added: "I'll withdraw that comment and find another way of making it another time."
The MP made the comment while talking about unemployment, as he urged members from all parties to tackle the issue.
He said: "You might be right wing, you might be left wing. You might be a Liberal - you'd be a prat, but you might be a Liberal."
Mr Cryer had also earlier referred to MPs as "whinging gits".
He then went on to used his speech to attack the Government's decision to drop the Building Schools for the Future programme.
Mr Cryer said he and Walthamstow MP Stella Creasy had been requesting a meeting with the secretary of state for education on a "daily" basis to discuss the issue, but that he had ignored their requests.
He finished by saying he did "not regret" his prat comment.
