A MAN in his 60s was burned with an iron by robbers who left him and his wife traumatised.
The couple, both in their 60s, were left devastated after two men entered their home in the early hours of this morning, August 1, and demanded money.
The ordeal happened at about 4.45am in Woodman Lane, Sewardstonebury, near Chingford.
The two men entered the house by a window and threatened the couple.
They demanded a safe was opened but the couple do not have a safe and the man was then burned on the back with a clothes iron.
The couple were tied up before the robbers stole jewellery of high value, including rings, necklaces, cufflinks and watches.
The man was taken to Whipps Cross Hospital by ambulance and later transferred to the specialist burns unit at Broomfield Hospital, Chelmsford, for treatment.
No vehicle was heard or seen but police have said the two robbers wore balaclavas and gloves and officers will be speaking to the victims again to get better descriptions.
Police are appealing for information to catch those responsible.
Temporary DI Kev Shannon said: "This was an absolutely terrifying ordeal for the couple.
"The robbers used completely unnecessary violence on the victim, leaving him with a very serious burn.
"I urge anyone who has any information about who is responsible to contact detectives at Loughton on 0300 333 4444 or give information anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
