THE grandson of the first Briton to fly an all-British plane has given a talk in Walthamstow.
Eric Verdon Roe spoke at The Pump House Museum, in South Access Road, about the Lancaster bomber, the Vulcan and the 504, just three of the aircraft built by the Avro company.
In July 1909, Alliott Verdon Roe became the first Briton to fly an all-British machine on Walthamstow Marshes.
The following year Roe and his brother, Humphrey, established AV Roe and Company in Manchester.
The event today marked 100 years since the company was founded.
Also at the museum was author and historian Dr Jim Lewis who gave a talk on other aviation stories of the Lea Valley.
Lindsay Collier, project director at the museum, said: "There were probably 40 to 50 people at the two presentations and everyone enjoyed it.
"The talks were fantastic and the Lea Valley aviation story is phenomenal."
Mr Collier said another exhibition is planned at the museum later in the year and it will feature toy companies of the Lea Valley.
The exhibition on the history of Avro is open every Thursday and Sunday in August (11am-4pm).
