Walthamstow Village is to represent London in a national horticultural competition.
It will be taking part in the Urban Community category in the 2010 Royal Horticultural Society's Britain in Bloom finals on Wednesday, August 4, following last year's success in the London in Bloom regional competition.
They will be up against eight other urban communities from across the UK, including Sheffield, Manchester, Aberdeen, Middlesborough, Oxmoor, Portishead, Derby and Birmingham.
RHS judges Sue Wood and Jim Knight will visit Walthamstow Village on Wednesday.
They will be grading the village on its horticultural sustainability, community participation, and overall achievement.
Walthamstow Village in Bloom chairperson Helen Lerner, 46, said: “RHS Britain in Bloom enables people to join together to improve their local communities through a range of long-term, sustainable projects.
“It instils civic pride and is hugely beneficial to the environment.
“We have seen great improvements in the Village street-scene and it’s all thanks to the residents, businesses, Paul Tickner, Waltham Forest’s Contracts Monitoring Officer and his teams.”
Competition results will be announced at The Centennial Centre in Birmingham on Wednesday, September 29.
