THE OWNER of a landmark shop which recently closed has refused to reveal what will replace it.
Uglows, a home furnishings store in Station Road, Chingford, closed its doors last month after trading in the area for 100 years.
Owner Peter Uglow has confirmed that the premises above the shop will be converted into flats but remains tight-lipped on the future of the ground floor space.
He confirmed he will retain ownership of the building and keys are being handed over to a retail tenant on Wednesday.
Despite admitting that some people in Chingford already knew who was taking over the shop, he refused to reveal the tenant’s identity to the Guardian, saying the information was “confidential”.
“More information will come to light in the coming weeks,” he said.
Rumours that Tesco will take over the shop were neither confirmed nor denied by the company.
