TWO new interns will be working with MP Stella Creasy to help shape youth projects in Walthamstow this summer.
She has taken on two local young people as interns through the London Citizens' program at Walthamstow's George Monoux College.
The interns Sarah Burton, 19, and Tristian Farquharson, 16, will be working with Miss Creasy and her team very closely to see how an MPs office runs day to day. They will also be learning project management skills by getting involved with planning and helping out with events and trips for young people. The interns will be coordinating local volunteers.
Miss Creasy said: "I’m delighted to be working with London Citizens and really impressed by the way Sarah and Tristian have already thrown themselves into this project. Supporting our local young people is a key priority for me as our MP and this pilot scheme is I hope the start of showing how by working together with the council, voluntary sector, local businesses and local faith communities we can help Walthamstow’s young people achieve their potential. I hope other local residents will join me in working with them this summer and volunteer for this scheme.”
Sarah said: "Stella has made us feel like part of her team. I am very excited about the Summer Program and looking forward to seeing how it develops."
Tristian said: " I am finding being an Intern hard work but extremely rewarding and I feel very valued. I know the project is going to be a success."
The projects aim to build relations between Walthamstow's youngsters and the wider community.
Ebony Vincent, the lead officer for youth provision in Miss Creasy's team, has helped secure funding to provide two youth workers over the summer.
They have helped organise activities for the young people to attend which the youth workers will support. Funding has come from McDonalds and the local Metropolitan Police Youth Partnserhip Unit.
The projects are also being supported by Cllrs Saima Mahmud, Mark Rusling and Ahsan Khan.
