A LANDMARK store which recently closed after 100 years of trading will be taken over by Tesco, it has been confirmed.
The supermarket giant will convert Uglows, a former home furnishings store in Station Road, Chingford, into an express store.
The store's owner Peter Uglow acknowledged yesterday (August 2) that the space would be rented out to a retail tenant, but refused to disclose who would be moving into the premises.
He also confirmed that the floors above the shop will be converted into flats.
A spokeswoman for Tesco plc said that the opening will create 20 jobs in the area, but planning applications for a cash machine and new signage have yet to be approved.
Mr Uglow will retain ownership of the property and the keys are due to be handed to the new lease holders tomorrow (August 4).
