ON May 12 and 13, in the evening, nine Year 10-13 students in the drama studio performed the first comedy night live.
On both nights, the shows, entitled Aren’t You Funny, were well supported by students, parents and staff.
These evenings were a culmination of hard work and weeks of dedication.
The whole event was organised by pupils and directed by Year 13 student Robbie Fox.
The evenings began with the sound of Monty Python’s Always Look on the Bright side of Life, before the director introduced the show and opened the stand-up routines, which included performances by Connor Cullen, Serdar Avcin and Aaron Wilson.
The evenings moved on to show sketches including the Looney Tunes in the Godfather, a drugged police officer in court, Star Wars with a British twist, an invisible drum kit and a pair of confused noblemen.
A set of improvised theatre sports games which rounded off the night proved very popular.
Other performers were Jack Norman, Adnan Shakoor, Joshua Abbott, Noelle Baiiood and Suganjan Suthakran.
The shows were an unbelievable success in a very difficult genre of theatre.
Hopefully this will be only the start for Robbie Fox, as he embarks on university life to study comedy.
Thanks go out also to Ms Bretterecker for all her support and encouragement, and to the sound operator Jack Heayn.
Aren’t You Funny is the first independent show produced at Walthamstow Academy that is not related to an end of year musical or an assessed piece, it’s all just good fun.
