AT least five more play areas in the borough are set to be improved as government cash has been confirmed.
Children across Redbridge will benefit from improvements to equipment as funding for the final year of a council improvement scheme has been signed off.
Work is due to start immediately at South Park, Ilford, and Redbridge Recreation Ground in Clayhall as designs for improvements are already agreed following consultation with residents.
Designs are being prepared for Onslow Gardens play area in South Woodford, Barley Lane Recreation Ground, Chadwell Heath, and Manford Way play area in Chigwell.
Redbridge has been granted all of its allocated funding, a total of £440,000, to complete the third year of the projects.
The work has been funded by a £1.1million grant from the former Department for Children, Schools and Families, but the projects were put on hold in July following the Department of Education’s (DoE) decision to review schemes.
Sixteen play areas across Redbridge have already been created or improved as part of the scheme.
