THE Ragged String Band play Leytonstone's North Star pub this Sunday (December 19).
This country and folk band from the flatlands of Essex have been compared to the likes of Old Crow Medicine Show and are acclaimed for their fast-picking banjo playing.
Support for the gig comes from blues act The Henry Brothers.
The show starts around 7pm and entry is free.
The night is organised by promoters What's Cookin'.
Boy girl indie duo The Cowbell play the North Star next Wednesday (December 22) as part of a double-dose of What's Cookin' this month.
Recently signed by Independent label Too Pure Records, this pair have transcended the inevitable comparisons to the White Stripes to create their own raw but melodic sound.

Meanwhile over at Walthamstow's Plough Inn there are still plenty of gigs lined up this week, despite the looming possible closure of the venue in January.
This Thursday (December 16) E17 Jazz plays host to the Asaf Sirkis New Trio. These electric guys draw their influence from the Middle East and South India to create a “hypnotic” sound.
Admission is £5 and doors open at 8pm for an 8.30pm start.
The Green Ray play their last Plough residency gig on Friday (December 17). Solo act Steve Finn guest stars.
It costs £5 and doors are at 8.30pm.
Then on Sunday (December 19) Walthamstow Folk Club will be having a Christmas Party at the Wood Street venue, which will include much live music. Acts to be confirmed. Admission is £6 or £5 for concessions and it starts at 7.30pm.
Waltham Abbey Folk Club, in Brooker Road, will also be hosting a Christmas Party on Monday (December 20). A special guest is promised. Doors at 8.30pm and entry price TBC.
Unsigned rockers Swinging from Mars headline the Standard in Blackhorse Lane, Walthamstow, this Thursday (December 16).
Support comes from Hurricane Season, Twisted Hearts and Crescendos. Entry is £6 or £5 with a band flyer. Doors open around 8.30pm.
Tribute act Whole Lotta Led play on Friday (December 17) with the Small Fakers taking to the stage on Saturday (December 18). Both gigs cost £10 and doors will be at around 8pm.
The Battered Saucepan play their brand of West Coast acoustic blues and rock at Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, on Friday (December 17).
The show starts from 8.30pm and entry is free.
