A SCHEME which allows pubs, clubs and eateries to warn each other about troublemakers via radio walkie-talkies has been launched in Loughton.

So far nine premises are involved but police hope more will sign up soon.

Loughton inspector Tom Simons said: “It will mainly assist staff in premises that operate around the night time economy such as pubs, clubs and restaurants.

“The members of premises who have signed up to the pub link radio scheme will have direct access to a dedicated sergeant and officers on duty, allowing any disturbances or potential disorder to be dealt with efficiently and effectively.”

Nu Bar owner Adam Brooks, who has signed his bar up, said: “It will improve communications with not only the police, but with other pubs and clubs in the area, allowing us to effectively respond and deal with any anti-social behaviour before it has a chance to develop.

“We will work closely with the police and the community to do everything we can to ensure our clubs and pubs remain a safe place in which people can socialise and enjoy a good night out.”

Insp Simons added: “We welcome any information that members of the pub link radio scheme can offer to better tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.

"We want to deter the small minority who commit crime and ruin evenings for others and send a positive message to those wishing to enjoy a night out that Loughton is a safe place.

“I would like to encourage owners of premises who operate during the night-time economy to contact me at Loughton police station if they would like to be involved and join the scheme.”

Nu Bar, Crystal Lounge, Hollybush, Last Post, The Wheatsheaf, Loughton BBQ, The Kebabery, The Royal Oak and The Plume of Feathers have all signed up.
