POLICE are appealing for help after a man was stabbed during a carjacking outside his Chingford home.

The 29-year-old victim had parked up his silver BMW 116i and was unloading his shopping from the boot at around 10am on a Tuesday morning when he was approached and threatened with a flick knife.

He refused to hand over his keys and a scuffle then ensued, but the attacker, who wore a scarf over his face, appeared to give up and fled.

But as the man went to open his front door the thief ran back again and snatched the keys from his hand and jumped into the vehicle.

The man managed to dash back and pull open one of his car's doors but was threatened again and the thief drove off in the direction of Simmons Lane.

It was only then that the man realised he had been stabbed.

It happened in Larkshall Road near the junction of New Road on Tuesday November 30, but police have only released details now.

The man was treated for a single stab wound to the chest but was released later that day.

Police have searched CCTV in the area but without success.

Investigating officer DC Claude Gillham said: "We have a good description of the suspect. We would like to appeal to the public to assist us in identifying who is responsible for this robbery.

"If anyone has any information please let us know so the offender can be brought to justice.

"Vehicles were moving along the road quite slowly that day due to the snow. Perhaps you recall seeing this vehicle driving off at speed?"

The vehicle has the registration number EN09DKD.

The suspect is described as a 6'2" tall black man of medium build, with short dark hair.

Police say he spoke with an English accent and was wearing a blue parker type Stone River coat with a compass patch on the upper right arm.

He wore dark jeans and black Nike Air trainers.

He also wore a black scarf over his face and is described as being of smart appearance. No arrests have been made.
