DEMONSTRATORS gathered outside a Walthamstow store to accuse a retail giant of unfairly avoiding tax.
Local members of UK Uncut, which campaigns against large corporations it sees as exploiting legal loopholes to maximise profit, protested outside Bhs in the town square on Saturday (December 18) as part of a day of co-ordinated action across the country.
Campaigners say the Arcadia Group, which owns Bhs and other High Street chains such as Top Shop, is among a number of large UK companies which is failing in its responsibilities to the British taxpayer at a time of drastic Government cuts to public services.
Walthamstow UK Uncut spokesman Michael Gold said: "The vicious cuts agenda would not be necessary if the rich paid the taxes they should - an estimated £25 billion every year."
The Arcadia Group declined to comment.
