THE former deputy borough commander of Waltham Forest Police has been honoured for her work in the area.

Detective Superintendent Sue Williams, who was promoted to post of borough commander in neighbouring Redbridge earlier this month, was presented with a vase by Waltham Forest mayor Cllr Masood Ahmad at the town hall.

She said: “I feel humbled that my efforts were recognised by those who represent the communities of Waltham Forest.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed working on the Borough these past three years having worked closely with our partners and communities to make the borough a safer place, and I want to thank everyone for their support and hard work to make a real difference.”

Meanwhile many figures in the community have been paying tribute Ms Williams.

Steve Williams, who is the vice-chairman of the Waltham Forest Community Safety Board, said: “She's very determined, approachable and engaging.

“I think Redbridge is very lucky to have her as the new borough commander.”

She told the Guardian's sister paper in Wanstead and Woodford that she was “immensely proud” of her promotion.
