A PRIMARY school looks set to expand under proposals which will see the number of pupils increase by 200.
George Tomlinson Primary, in Vernon Road, Leytonstone, has been earmarked for a new single storey block and a three storey extension to a classroom block as part of a bid to ease the borough's school places shortage.
Under the proposals, the school hall will also be expanded, while new canopies and landscaping are also planned.
The changes will allow the school to teach three forms a year instead of the current two, increasing the total number of pupils from 420 to 630.
There will also be a rise of full-time staff from 44 to 60, while part-time staff will increase from 22 to 36.
A council report states: "The extensions have been designed so to be of a modern design whilst also being successfully integrated with the setting and character of the existing school buildings, to the benefit of the local streetscene.
"The development would have no significant adverse impacts on the amenities enjoyed by the occupants of the neighbouring properties."
The work, if approved, will take place in phases over the next seven years.
Residents have been consulted but no-one objected, the council said.
The planning committee will consider the proposals on Tuesday, January 4.
Earlier this year the council said 48 new classrooms were needed across the borough by 2012 to cope with the rising demand for places.
