POLICE are appealing for witnesses to an attack on three young couples as they celebrated the new year.

The revellers were walking down George Lane in South Woodford at around 2-2.30am on January 1.

As they neared the Underground station, they were attacked by five white men, thought to be 20 to 23 years old.

One of the victims, a 25-year-old man, suffered a dislocated shoulder, while the other five in the group all sustained minor injuries.

The men also attacked three onlookers, before fleeing into the station and boarding a train towards Leytonstone.

Police are interested in speaking to anyone on the Underground at around the time of the attack, who may have seen the men acting strangely.

Anyone with information should contact DC Jamie Da’Bell at Redbridge Police on 0208 345 2727, or call Crimstoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
