A MEMBER of the world-famous Dambusters RAF squadron has died, aged 90.
James Peters died in his sleep at home in Forest Side, Chingford, on New Year's Day.
Mr Peters was born and grew up in Chingford.
He became a rear gunner while a member of the 617 Squadron, The Dambusters, during the Second World War.
Mr Peters later played for Highams Park Cricket Club.
His son-in-law Roy Longman said: “He was a ball of fun. Everyone knew him from when we went to cricket. He was always laughing, joking and dancing.
“He was always having some fun with someone.
“He was very well known in Chingford. He will be missed by a lot of people.”
Mr Peters leaves his wife Margaret, 97, daughter Margaret Catherine Longman, 69, two grandchildren, Martin Longman and Mandy McGowan, and six great-grandchildren.
Mr Peters' funeral will be held on January 19, from 12pm at Enfield Crematorium.
