A FORMER social club has been granted a licence to trade, despite neighbours' fears that bikini-clad revellers, excessive noise and parking chaos will return.

Forest Road Snooker Club in Walthamstow had permission to operate on a members-only basis, but was closed down in July when it emerged it was operating as a public bar.

Families who live nearby in South Countess Road complained about the noise from anti-social customers, parking congestion and scantily clad women, who attended 'bikini parties' at the venue, parading down the street.

Owner Pantellis Lazarou applied for a new licence to sell alcohol and provide entertainment from noon to 2am from Sundays to Thursdays, and until 4pm on Fridays and Saturdays.

The council's licensing sub-committee met on Friday to discuss the plans and reduced the hours until 1am and 2am respectively.

Mr Lazarou agreed to ban troublemakers who have also been excluded from nearby pubs.

Robert Buck, 53, of South Countess Road, said he was disappointed with the decision.

He said: “It's not really an improvement. It's a fiasco. They still have a nightclub licence, and the people will still cause problems when the club closes.”

Resident Marc Francois, 51, also of South Countess Road, said: “It might be reduced hours but it is still late, especially on a Sunday night when most people who live here have work the next day.

“It is the wrong thing for this area and for the people who live here.

“We can't do anything about it now. We will just have to live with it.”
