CAMPAIGNERS are to hold a mass pillow fight in protest at proposals to build a 14-storey hotel tower block in the heart of Walthamstow.
A council planning committee is to meet next Thursday (January 20) to decide on the application for the controversial development next to Walthamstow Central station, which will also include a residential unit eight storeys tall.
Officers have recommended councillors approve the development unless there are objections from the Greater London Authority (GLA).
Protesters plan to hold their stunt this Saturday (January 15) at 12 noon in Station Approach at the site of the proposed development.
Sally Stephens, chair of Priory Ave Residents Association, said: "We want to have a massive pillow fight to symbolise the amount of bed-spaces the hotel and flats will generate.
"We envisage doing it as a flash mob type event where we seem to come from no-where, have an intense five minute creative expression of disgust at the proposals and then drift away."
Protesters are urged to bring their own pillows.
It had previously been thought that the hotel would be 13 storeys high, but a detailed council report states that the proposals actually amount to a block 14 storeys tall.
The council meeting to discuss the plans will be held next Thursday at the Town Hall from 7.30pm.
