TOTTENHAM Hotspur have confirmed that they will demolish most of the Olympic Stadium if they won the right to take over the venue after the London 2012 Games.

Spurs are in direct competition with West Ham over who will take over the stadium, with both having submitted official bids.

The Olympic Park Legacy Committee (OLPC) will recommend which bid is most suitable by January 28, a decision which will then have to be ratified by Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the government.

But Spurs have revealed that they would tear down much of the venue as they feel it is not suitable for football.

Stadium architect David Keirle told BBC: “It's not entirely demolition. We will be using some of the undercroft (cellar) but we're not using much.

“We may take some elements to Crystal Palace for its redevelopment.”

Keirle also admitted it would be cheaper for Tottenham to move to the Olympic Stadium than regenerate White Hart Lane.

West Ham, who have submitted a dual bid with Newham Council, will have to splash out between £150-180million to remove the roof and reduce the capacity from 80,000 to 60,000, as well as creating a pitch and inserting other facilities.
