THE end of fire brigade strikes could be in sight, as a settlement is due to be discussed today (Friday).
Officials from the Fire Brigades Union (FBU) have agreed in principle to new shift patterns, which have been disputed for six years.
The chairman of the London Fire and Emergency Planning Authority, Brian Coleman, said he was “delighted” with the progress.
“Today's announcement paves the way to end a dispute we've been fighting for six years, if accepted by the FBU's regional committee,” he added. “It demonstrates clear acceptance from the union to changes that will make London safer.”
Two fire engines have been taken from stations at Leyton and Chingford by London Fire Brigade to provide cover elsewhere in the city during the industrial action.
Calls for their return were made after three serious fires in one night earlier this month.
