A GROUP of college pupils have received a prestigious award for their community work.
Forty-five Waltham Forest College students doing a BTEC in Public Services were awarded the Duke of Edinburgh bronze prize just before Christmas.
They developed presentation skills, took part in sports and volunteered as ambassadors to provide information to other students on diversity and HIV and AIDS awareness.
They also took part in training walks in Epping Forest to prepare for a three-day expedition.
Tom Vittles, public services lecturer and Duke of Edinburgh co-ordinator, said: “The students worked excellently individually and as a team.”
Seckin Akin, 19, said: “The Duke of Edinburgh bronze award was challenging and it gave me the opportunity to develop my team working, communication and interpersonal skills and, most importantly, my self confidence.”
