SHOPPERS scattered in terror after a scuffle between a police officer and a 24-year-old man finished with them both crashing into a beauty parlour through a plate glass window.
Police Community Support Officers called for re-inforcements after an argument developed with the man they had stopped in George Lane, South Woodford.
But the argument escalated into a fight when a police sergeant arrived and tried to arrest the man.
Pamela Mann, 27, is the owner of beautician’s Allure Nails in George Lane.
She said: “The shop was full, half of our regular customers were in.
“The policeman grabbed him and the man shrugged him off. The policeman then grabbed the man and pushed him, and he went through our window but the policeman fell through with him.
“It was a really big window and it shattered everywhere. Everyone was screaming and ran to the back of the shop.
“The man’s face was cut and there was blood all over the place.”
Miss Mann has been waiting since the accident at 12.30pm on Thursday, January 13, to see whether the police are going to offer her any compensation.
She said: “Now I have suffered a loss of business, my shop is badly damaged and we are all really shaken up. It was like a movie.
“You just do not expect these things to happen. The police definitely could have handled the situation better.”
A 24-year-old man from Ilford, had been charged with actual bodily harm and obstructing police, and has been bailed to appear before Redbridge Magistrates’ Court on Friday, January 21.
