A THIRD school could soon open in a congested residential road, much to the fury of residents.
Developer Neamul Moshin has submitted plans for a private primary school for up to 75 students in Mornington Road, Woodford Green.
The leafy road is already home to Trinity Catholic High School and St Anthony’s Primary, and residents fear that yet another school could leave their narrow street choked with traffic.
Pauline Peeling, 41, of Mornington Road, said: “There is no way this should happen. The road at the top is already nearly always busy. This would massively devalue our properties. No way would I want a school here.”
David Walker, 70, said: “I would certainly not like a school to open up the road. There is a dead end at the end and they would have to turn round in our drives.
“If it was a private school there would be all these 4x4s blocking the road in the morning and at home time.”
Peggy Martin, 71, said: “It is a nightmare getting out at the top of the road at the best of times. Sometimes we just wait at home until it has died down. This idea is just a non-starter for me.”
Mr Mohsin, of Bushey Avenue in South Woodford, plans to convert an existing care home but that itself would cause the loss of seven parking spaces. In his application he has promised parents would have to park some distance away from the school, but has not indicated how that would be enforced.
Speaking to the Guardian he said: “I am not looking to ruffle any feathers. I intend to go and speak to the residents to discuss my plans. I am certainly aware of the fact that there are concerns and I will discuss these with residents.
“The reason that I am looking to buy this property is that buildings that can be transformed into schools are very difficult to find. They are often snapped up right away and turned in to flats.”
Redbridge Council has yet to fix a date to discuss the application.
