AN OVERWHELMING response has seen the period of time the public are allowed to have their say on cuts to the area’s fire service extended.
After the biggest response in their history, Essex County Fire and Rescue Service has extended the public consultation period to February 8.
Over 1,500 people responded to plans to cut staffing at stations throughout the area, including Waltham Abbey, where fire officers also face having their homes sold by the fire service.
It was decided that initial plans lacked detail so the public were given an extra two months to have their say.
Fire chiefs will meet to consider the plans on February 9.
