ONE of the 33 Chilean miners who spent over two months trapped 2,000ft underground is coming to Woodford Green this weekend to talk about his experiences.

Jose Enriquez, 55, will appear at All Saints Church in Inmans Row tonight (Saturday) and tomorrow as part of a UK-wide tour discussing how Christianity helped him cope during the ordeal last autumn.

Mr Enriquez, who was the 24th of the miners to be rescued, will be accompanied by his wife as well as by Rev Alfredo Cooper, who is the chaplain to president of Chile Sebastian Pinera.

All Saints vicar, Rev Paul Harcourt, said: "Their plight, and subsequent miraculous rescue captured the attention of the whole world.

"It has been estimated that more than one billion people watched them emerge from the ground through the rescue capsule after 67 dramatic days.

"As marvellous as the technical aspects of the rescue were, what has caught the imagination of the world was the resilience and fortitude of the men.

"Theirs is a story of remarkable courage and faith."

Tonight's talk begins at 7.30pm, with Sunday's event starting at 6.30pm.

Entry is free.
