DOZENS of residents turned out to lobby their MP over plans to open a third school at the end of their narrow residential road.

Developer Neamul Moshin has submitted plans for a private primary school for up to 75 students on the site of a care home in Mornington Road, Woodford Green.

With school-run traffic to Trinity Catholic High School and St Anthony’s Primary School already crowding into the road, residents fear that yet another school will bring traffic to a standstill.

A petition against the plans has already collected 300 signatures, and Woodford Green MP Iain Duncan Smith has promised to throw his weight behind them.

Resident Steve Poessinouw, 40, said: “It was a very good meeting. Fifty residents turned out to talk about their concerns with Mr Duncan Smith.

“He said there is a lack of residential care homes in the area and we should keep the one here.

“There must be an alternative. If there is even more traffic on the road it would be a danger to the schoolchildren.

Neighbour Kim Heaphy, 40, said: “There are enough schools in the area. One teacher from Trinty told us that parents were already having rows because of congestion.

“This is a lovely, quiet road and these plans would ruin it.”

Mr Duncan Smith said: “It is very clear to me that it is a completely unsuitable location for a school. There are no street lights on this road, no pavements, the bottom of the road is a dead end, and there is already considerable traffic on this road. I will be writing to Redbridge Council to find out the reasons for this proposed development and to make them aware of the residents’ concerns about this site.”

No date has yet been set for a decision on Mr Moshin’s application.
