A SPECIAL advisor on outer London has been appointed by London mayor Boris Johnson.
Cllr Teresa O’Neill, leader of Bexley Council, will be tasked with helping to tackle problems in areas such as Waltham Forest, including housing, transport and employment.
Outer London boroughs have historically received less investment and resources than inner city areas.
This prompted Boris Johnson to set up the Outer London Commission in 2008, which involves councils, regeneration experts, landowners and developers.
Cllr O’Neill will be responsible for supporting the implementation of the commission’s recommendations.
Boris Johnson said: "It is vital we address the historic neglect of the outer boroughs that preceded this mayoralty.”
Cllr O’Neill said: "Outer London offers not only a tremendous quality of life, but has major interests and businesses of its own. Its success is vital to the economy of London and to the nation as a whole.”
