AN INVESTIGATION has been launched by the council into how social services handled the case of a baby who died after allegedly being force-fed by her parents.
Baby W, from Walthamstow who cannot be identified for legal reasons, died in March last year at the age of 10 months from pneumonia, caused by inhalation of food into the lung.
Her 29-year-old mother and her 36-year-old father who appeared at the Old Bailey last month, charged with causing or allowing her death, have been remanded on bail to face trial in September.
The review by the Local Safeguarding Board is launched when a child dies and abuse or neglect is known or suspected to be a factor in that death.
The investigation will look at the involvement or actions taken by organisations and professionals with the family.
