CONSERVATIONISTS will lead visitors around a historic park this summer.
Members of the conservation group Friends of Wanstead Parklands will give a guided tour of Wanstead Park on Sunday, June 12, entitled 'How the Water Works'.
The walk will focus on the complex water system in the park, which features a number of interconnected ponds such as Heronry Pond and Ornamental Water.
Later this year, the Corporation of London – which manages the park as part of Epping Forest – will bid for £3 million from the Heritage Lottery Fund to regenerate the park.
Wanstead Park was placed on English Heritage's 'at risk' register in 2009 over concerns about the state of its waterways and woodlands, as well as the condition of historic features such as its 18th-century grotto. The walk will start at 10.30am from the park's entrance on Blake Hall Road, opposite the sunken tennis courts.
