AN A-LEVEL student has interviewed a leading documentary maker and the subject of her acclaimed film.

Inderpreet Lakhanpal, 17, from Wanstead, interviewed director Jennifer Arnold about her film A Small Act, which tells the story of Kenyan-born Chris Mburu, whose life was transformed as a child when his schooling was sponsored by a visitor from Sweden.

The Wanstead High School pupil also spoke to Mr Mburu himself, who in recent years has set up his own scholarship scheme to help young people fighting poverty and a lack of education in one of the poorest countries in Africa.

Inderpreet got the chance to interview them after being picked as a Young Ambassador by Film Club, an educational charity which helps schools set up free after-school screenings.

A Small Act caused a storm when it was premièred at the Sundance Film Festival in the United States – so much so that an audience member donated $80,000 to a Kenyan children's charity immediately after the screening.

The film will be released in the UK on April 15. To watch the interview visit www.filmclub.org.
