A CLAMPDOWN on people committing council tax fraud is soon to get under way.
In the next few weeks, Waltham Forest Council will be conducting checks to identify residents who are wrongfully claiming a single person discount.
The authority will check information provided against data held by credit agencies and public sector organisations.
A report in February by the Audit Commission, criticised the council for having a poor fraud detection record in 2009 and 2010.
It recorded no cases of single person discount fruad, despite a neighbouring borough uncovering cases worth nearly £500,000.
