CHELSEA FC legends are to compete in a match to raise money for a disabled former footballer.
Stars, including former England internationals Kerry Dixon and Dave Beasant, will be competing for the Chelsea Ex Pro Legends against the Debden Sports Legends at Debden Sports Club on Sunday April 17 for former Debden player Wayne Sammut, 49, who has motor neurone disease.
Wayne will be managing his former teammates against the Chelsea Legends. There will be a bar, activities for children, and a barbeque.
Wayne said: “I am really looking forward to having a great day with lots of old, and hopefully some new, friends, and wish I was able to get my boots out and join in. I'm sure it's going to be a very emotional day for me. In addition, I really hope we can raise awareness of motor neurone disease in order that going forward we can gather more support in battling the condition.”
Former Chelsea defender Keith Dublin said: “I'm told the Debden side we are up against were a pretty successful team and so we'll need to be at our best, it's shaping up to be a great game."
Tickets are available from Loughton pubs the Gunmakers Arms, the Golden Lion and the Cottage Loaf and are priced £5 for adults and £3 for children under 14. Tickets will also be available at Debden Sports on the day.
