THE bonkers but brilliant London Philharmonic Skiffle Orchestra play Ye Olde Rose and Crown pub in Walthamstow this Friday (April 15).

The eccentric Walthamstow-based foursome play an hilarious mix of comedy songs backed by a dazzling array of instruments including everything from violins to suitcases.

And they're probably the only band to have a double bass player who is apparently called Ronald Reagan...

Tickets are available at the pub, in Hoe Street near Greenleaf Road, at the price of £10.

The show is in the venue's upstairs theatre room and doors open at around 8pm.

For something a bit calmer, singer-songwriter Pete Morton plays Walthamstow Folk Club's night at the pub on Sunday (April 17).

Admission is £6, or £5 for concessions, and the show is also in the theatre room.

Doors are from 7.30pm.

And then on Monday evening (April 18) it's the turn of The Battered Saucepan blues band to perform at the R'n'C. Entry is free and the music starts around 8pm-ish.

Meanwhile over in southern Essex, the Kate Bush-influenced Christina Brodie plays Loughton Folk Club this Thursday (April 14).

Making a change from the club's usual musical diet, expect innovative pop with a folky influence.

Support comes from the soulful Kirsty Keogh.

Entrance to the venue, at the Loughton Club in Station Road, varies from £2 to £5. There's a £1 discount for club members.

Doors open at 8pm.

Unsigned acts including Chris Jones, the Kamikaze Auto Pilots, D-Railed and Nothing play the Standard on Thursday (April 14).

The night, at the music venue in Walthamstow's Blackhorse Lane, starts at around 8.30pm.

Entry is £6, or £5 with a band's flyer. The evening is organised by promoters Club Bus Wind.

Led Zeppelin tribute band Whole Lotta Led play on Friday (April 15). The gig is £10 and doors are at 8pm.

The Small Fakers take to the stage at the Standard on Saturday (April 16). Entry is also £10 and is from 8pm.

Roots guitarist Stompin' Dave Allen headlines the North Star pub in Browning Road, Leytonstone, on Thursday (April 14).

His act includes a variety of American styles including bluegrass, blues, country and hillbilly.

Australian roots singer-songwriter Kim Churchill provides support, along with the mandolin sounds of Jim Dog.

The show starts from 8pm in the main bar and entry is free – although donations are welcome.
