TWO middle aged men who were caught with more than £700,000 worth of cannabis in their car have been jailed for three years each.
Patrick Kelly, 55, and Daniel Jones, 44, were stopped by police after residents reported them acting suspiciously in Sinclair Road, Chingford, at around 11.30pm on a Wednesday night in April last year.
When officers searched their silver Mercedes 4x4 they discovered 172 slabs of the illegal drug weighing 1kg each.
Kelly, of Otley Road in Victoria Docks, and Jones, of Walnut Gardens in Stratford, pleaded not guilty to possession with intent to supply cannabis but were convicted in February following a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
A third man, Daniel Rolle, 53, of Hainault Road in Leytonstone, was also in the car.
He was found guilty of possession and has been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
Superintendent Adrian Hutchinson, of Waltham Forest Police, welcomed the sentence.
He said: "This is a really significant seizure and evidence that the police are committed to tackling drug dealing at all levels."
