MORE body parts have been found by police at the house of a man charged with the murder of taxi driver Anthony Whitefield.
An arm belonging to the Loughton father-of five was discovered by an angler in Roding Lake in Loughton and a police marine unit discovered a second two days later.
The home of Douglas Binet, 53, of Hanson Drive in Loughton, is still being searched by police following his arrest on April 1, and neighbours have reacted with horror to the latest discoveries.
Police have refused to reveal exactly which parts of Mr Whitefield – aside from the arms – they have found.
Peter Folley, 77, of Hanson Drive, said: “It is absolutely awful what has happened.
“He threw out a mattress in February and had it on the front lawn of the block waiting for the council to collect. It looked liked it was covered in blood. We thought it must be paint but joked about it at the time.
“Our son went to school with him and said he was a decent fellow, nothing wrong with him.”
One woman, who asked to remain anonymous, said: “I have known Mr Binet for about 10 years and him and his family are very nice people.
“People are saying that Whitefield owed £10,000 and could not pay up, but that might just be Chinese whispers. People are scared to talk about it because they might get in to trouble.”
Mr Whitefield, 47, who lived with his 15-year-old daughter in Bryony Close, was reported missing by his family after leaving his partner’s house in Loughton on February 8.
He was married for 17 years before divorcing in 2005 and had four daughters and one son.
Two weeks after the first arm was discovered, police cordons remain in place around sections of the lake in Roding Valley Recreation Ground.
Lillian Mumme, 59, of Albert Terrace in Loughton, walks by the lake every day.
She said: “What has happened here is a great evil. I have just been by the side praying for the victim and his family.
“This is a beautiful area but what has happened spoils that.”
Police have refused to reveal what body parts have been discovered at the house.
Mr Folley added: “I have been here decades and remember when everyone on this street knew each other. Now I barely know anyone and all manner of things go on.”
Binet has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at crown court in June
