CHILDREN are being put at risk because fencing by a busy railway track is not being repaired.
Inayat Bhatti, 32, of Berryfield Close, says the metal railings by the Chingford to Liverpool street line, where it runs through Walthamstow Village, must be replaced to protect the public.
The section of track between Wood Street and Walthamstow Central stations is close to nine schools and next to a playground in West Avenue.
He first notified Network Rail of his concerns four years ago and an engineer was finally sent to the site last month.
However, later that same day Mr Bhatti was told by Network Rail that the fences had been deemed safe.
He has since made a film showing the fence to raise awareness of the problem, which he has posted on Youtube.
Footage filmed by Mr Bhatti of the fencing.
Mr Bhatti said: “It is a straight drop from the fence onto the railway tracks and the railings are practically being held up by trees and chicken wire.
“How can they call that safe? It's dangerous.
“I worry about my niece and other young children who live here.
“We have a playground just 20 metres from our road and with it being Easter there are more children around and summer is only round the corner.
“You can see that some of the bars have been pulled apart so far, the holes are big enough to fit an adult, let alone a five-year-old child.
“Kids will always be kids. If their ball rolls off somewhere when they are playing, they are going to run after it.”
