AN MP is visiting a temple this weekend to join in the Sikh New Year celebrations.

Leyton and Wanstead MP, John Cryer, will be attending the Vaisakhi celebrations on Sunday (April 17) at the Gurdwara Sikh Sangat, in Francis Road, Leyton, from 10am.

Vaisakhi, also spelled Baisakhi, is one of the most important dates in the Sikh calendar and is celebrated on April 13 or 14.

John Cryer MP said: “Vaisakhi demonstrates the enduring values of the Sikh community in Leyton and Wanstead - a belief in equality and social justice.

“These are values which also inspire me and they are shared by the wider British community.”
