THE final tile in the pool at the 2012 Aquatics Centre was laid to mark the start of the 500-day countdown to London’s Paralympic Games.

Gold medal-winning swimmer Liz Johnson fitted the final tile during a ceremony on Monday (March 18).

The Aquatics Centre is one of the Olympic Park’s most distintive buildings and is due to be completed in the summer.

Miss Johnson said: “You can really imagine what the atmosphere will be like in 500 days time in such a fantastic venue.”
