A GOSPEL choir are preparing for their tenth appearance at the Glastonbury festival.

London Community Gospel Choir (LCGC), based in Brookdale Road, Walthamstow, have been booked to appear on the Acoustic Stage on Sunday, June 26.

The group's first appearance at the festival saw them open proceedings on the main stage.

Choir member and marketing manager, Gemma Rattenbury, has performed at Glastonbury for the last seven years.

She said: “We always have a really good time.

"It is so lovely to go there and soak up the atmosphere.

“The audience love it and we find it is the typical Glastonbury crowd who come and see us.

“As well as our own songs, we also sing songs they know like Oh Happy Day and Lean on Me.

“A lot of the comments we get afterwards are that people feel uplifted by our songs.

“Our origins are from the church where we do perform, but a lot of our performances are also outside the church, which we are quite used to.

“I think it is important to allow different kinds of music to be heard and we want our music to really shine.”

Some members will return home following the performance, while others will stay to perform with other artists.

Ms Rattenbury added: “No matter how many times I have performed at Glastonbury it never stops being exciting.

“The atmosphere when we get there is amazing and the 40 minutes we are on stage for goes so quickly.

“Glastonbury is a unique festival with regards to the number of people and the diversity of the crowd.”
