A COUPLE got married on the run on Sunday.
In one of the quirkier weddings of the year Andrew Ford, 33, who is from Hermon Hill in South Woodford, and Katrina Scaife, 32, from Brighton, got married while running the London Marathon on April 17.
After 20 miles of the gruelling course the couple ran in to the Marriot Hotel in West India Quay, where friends and family were waiting, before changing in to their wedding outfits, taking their vows, and squeezing their trainers on again to complete the final six miles.
Katrina, who works for charity Sightsavers, said: “It was amazing, just such a fantastic experience.
“We did not want a conventional wedding and running the Mumbai Marathon last year was such an amazing experience that we decided to get married while doing the London Marathon.
“After completing most of the race we got to the hotel, had a wash, got married, then ran the last part.”
“Lots of people had seen us on TV and the reaction from the crowd was just amazing.”
The couple ran to raise money for Saint Francis Hospice in Ilford where Mr Ford’s sister Christina was cared for before losing her fight with cancer three years ago.
