CAMPAIGNERS concerned over the future of a unit which provides specialist care for the elderly at Whipps Cross Hospital are to hold a protest next week.

It is feared that the Connaught Day Hospital, which is based on the Leytonstone site, may have its services cut back or could even be closed down altogether to save money.

It comes after Whipps Cross NHS Trust said it was carrying out a review of services provided at the unit, with a decision due to be made next month.

Anti-cuts campaigners have teamed up with the Keep Our NHS Public group to plan a protest urging the hospital management not to close the unit.

It will be held on Thursday April 28 at 5pm outside the main hospital entrance in Whipps Cross Road.

The centre provides rehabilitation and outpatient care for pensioners, such as physiotherapy for those injured in falls.
