Epping residents gave their views on the Royal Wedding this afternoon (Thursday).
Richard Gough, 60, Epping Road, Epping Green: “My wife and her mother will be watching it on TV so I will probably be doing some gardening. I do not want an elected president so for the sake of having a monarchy it is something I will put up with.”
Len Fisher, 82, Pancroft, Abridge: “I will not be watching. I think the country is being allowed to become more selfish. I am interested to see whether Kate Middleton will do her own thing, in seeing how independent she will be.”
Sonny Hogg, 19, The Lodge, Epping: “I do not think I will be watching, I will be out drinking. I am not interested in the Royal Wedding, it is not really relevant to me.”
Katy Gray, 25, Church Lane, North Weald: “I will certainly be watching. I am excited about seeing the fashions and dresses. It is just what we need with the recession and all of the difficulties around at the moment.
Yasmine Edgington, 51, High Street, Epping: “I have just made my grandaughters little wedding dresses for the day and I will be certainly watching it on TV. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone will be wearing.”
Sara Smith, 51, Woburn Avenue, Theydon Bois: “I think it will do us all good. We are all down in the doldrums at the minute and need it to bring us together. I love watching all of the horses.”
Val Sheen, 69, Rahn Road, Epping: ”I think it will give people a real boost which will do the country good and will cost only a small amount of the money that is granted to the Royal Family.”
Keith Sheen, 70, Rahn Road, Epping: “It is not appropriate at this time given the state of the economy. If you look at history it is when people are poorest that the Royal Family put on the most extravagant ceremonies.”
