A SURVIVOR of ovarian cancer will raise awareness of the disease by hosting a charity fundraising event next week.

Letitia Featherstone, 45, of Broomhill Road, Woodford Green, will host the event on May 1, and it will feature an afternoon tea with champagne with a surprise comedienne and music from Lucinda Dreyton.

Miss Featherstone hopes to raise £1,000 for Target Ovarian Cancer, a charity which aims to raise awareness of the killer disease.

She was diagnosed with the illness in April last year but, with the help of her doctor and family, has made a full recovery.

“Ovarian cancer’s survival rate is breast cancer’s death rate,” she said, adding that only 36 per cent of those diagnosed are expected to survive.

“The problem is there is not much early detection as women mistake symptoms like a bloated stomach for other things.

“This event will be a great chance to get people together and get them talking about the dangers this illness poses to women, and it’s also going to be a lot of fun.”

The event will take place at The Relaxation Place, Browning Road, in Leytonstone, between 2pm and 5.30pm and tickets are £30 each, all proceeds going to the charity.
