Long standing indie rock act Betamax headline The Standard Music Venue in Walthamstow this Thursday (April 28).

Support comes from Seranadeus and other acts to be confirmed.

Entry is £6, or £5 with a band flyer. Doors open around 8pm.

Tribute act Absolute Bowie play the Standard on Friday (April 29).

The gig at the venue, which is in Blackhorse Lane, starts around 8pm and costs £10 to get in.

Jimi Hendrix fans are in for a treat the night after (Saturday April 30) when R U Experienced perform there.

It costs £9 and doors are at 8pm.

Local singer-songwriter Paul Bolding headlines Loughton Folk Club on Thursday (April 28).

Support comes from the provocative and thoughtful Steve O'Donaghue.

It costs £2 on the doors, which open at around 8pm.

The show is at the Loughton Club in Station Road and there's a £1 discount for members.

Tenor Sax master Alan Skidmore performs at the East Side Jazz Club on Tuesday (May 3) along with Steve Melling on the piano, Geoff Gascoyne on the bass and resident drummer Clive Fenner.

The club is at the Lord Rookwood pub in Cann Hall Road, Leytonstone.

Entry is £6 and it starts at 8.30pm.

Waltham Abbey Folk Club hosts a singaround jam night on Monday (May 2) around the theme of 'Merry May'.

It starts from 8.30pm at the Royal British Legion HQ in Brooker Road and costs £1.50p.

There's a musical double helping of goodness at the North Star in Leytonstone this weekend.

First up, as mentioned in last week's column, influential 70s pub rock band Ducks Deluxe play a headline set on Thursday (April 28).

Support comes from Ducks influenced rock band Graham Larkbey and The Escape Committee.

Entry is free, although donations welcome. The music begins around 8pm.

Then on Friday (April 29) promoters What's Cookin' host folk rock duo Linda McRae and Martin Bell.

Support is Swedish country folk tunes provided by the talented Benjamin Folke Thomas.

The music gets stomping around 8pm and admission is also free with a whip-round.

The Battered Saucepan blues band play Ye Olde Rose and Crown in Hoe Street, Walthamstow, on Monday (May 2).

It's in the main bar from around 8pm, and entry is free.
