A FILM by two Walthamstow brothers is among the top 20 best selling DVDs in the country.

Directed by Stuart St Paul, who grew up in Blackhorse Road, the film 'Freight' is about a feud between an eastern European gang and a streetwise family man.

Mr St Paul said: “The success of the film is a bit of a surprise because it didn't have any of the big American movie stars in it, but I am very pleased.

“I think the film's subject matter has captured people's imagination.”

His inspiration for the script came after watching a Michael Palin documentary, which told the story of women from Moldovia being trafficked into the sex trade.

He added: “I was disturbed by the level of human trafficking, especially in the UK.

"It's even more shocking when you consider it has now surpassed the international drugs trade.

“I had always wanted to make an action film about gangs, but this was the subject matter I needed to use as an anchor for the story.”

His brother Graham Aikman, who still lives in Blackhorse Road, was responsible for the film's special effects.

Since its cinema release last year, the film has won awards at the Mexican International and Beckenridge USA Film Festival.

Mr St Paul is also a stunt coordinator on films and television shows, having just worked on the new Sherlock Holmes film.

Mr Aikman has also worked on several television programmes, including Eastenders, Spooks and Luther.
