YOUNGSTERS at nurseries across the borough have been playing dress-up to celebrate the royal wedding.

Pupils from Busy Bees nursery, in Larkswood Leisure Park, Chingford, wore pirates and princesses costumes to mark the event.

The children, who are up to five years old, also took part in a treasure hunt and played around in a blow-up princess castle.

Assistant Nursery Manager, Caroline Lodge said: “The children are very excited to be taking part in something as special as the wedding, though not all of them fully understand what is happening tomorrow.

“But one thing they all love to do is dress up.

“For some of them when you say princess, they think of a princess in a castle and for some of the older ones, they have a better understanding.”

During the festivities the children settled down to a royal lunch of breaded fish with home-made chips, followed by apple crumble and custard.

At the Just Learning nursery in Whipps Cross University Hospital, the children also wore fairy tale prince and princesses costumes to celebrate with Prince William and the future bride-to-be, Kate Middleton.

They also participated in egg and spoon races and sack races which took place in the garden.

Nursery manager, Karen Delaney, said: “The kids are so excited.

“Their parents told us that for the last few days they have been waking up every morning asking if they can wear their outfits.

“I think it is really important that we make an occasion out of it.

“The children are seeing news about the royal wedding everywhere and it is nice for them to get involved.”
