EX-FOOTBALL star Teddy Sheringham will join police on a charity run to raise £1,000.

Waltham Forest Police will complete an 8.2 mile run from Connaught Waters, on Rangers Road in Chingford, to the bottom of Leyton High Road in Leyton, on May 6.

Tessa Sanderson CBE (Olympic Javelin Gold Medalist) will help open the event at 4pm on the day.

A total of 13 officers and Teddy will take part in the run, while nine others will cycle to raise the money for Veteran Aid, which helps homeless ex-forces personnel with accomodation, food and clothing.

Other officers will be stationed at six stops along the route, running raffles and giving residents crime prevention advice and raising awareness of the Safer Transport Team’s initiatives.

The six stops will be: Chingford Railway Station car park, by KFC in Chingford Mount, at the Walthamstow Central bus terminus, outside Leyton bus garage, at Leyton Mills in Marshall Road and the end point in Leyton High Road.

The police are even trying to hire a double decker bus in which they will have fictional characters PCSO Connie and PCSO Steve to talk to children.

Sergeant Dave Johns, who is organising the event, said: “It should be a really fun afternoon and a chance to engage with local residents.”

He added: “The charity does a lot of important work and we’re happy to be able to support it this way.”

The police have already raised over half of the total cash but want to exceed their target if they can.

Residents are encouraged to donate and come and talk to the teams placed along the route, whose locations will be confirmed soon.

Anyone who wants to make a donation can do so online at: www.justgiving.com/david-johns0.
