ONE of the district’s tips is set to be closed.
The county council plans to shut the household recycling centre in Mill Lane, High Ongar, at the end of the year.
It also plans to open the sites in Brooker Road, Waltham Abbey, and Luxborough Lane, Chigwell, for five days a week rather than the seven days that they currently open.
Kevin Bentley, the council’s cabinet member for waste and recycling said: “Essex is one of the pacesetting counties for recycling, with over 50 per cent of our waste now being recycled or composted.
“We want to continue improving on this and offer the very best service for our residents, so we are taking steps to reduce inefficiencies and address any overlap that now exists between kerbside recycling collections and the recycling centre service.
“The proposal we have put forward will ensure that residents across the county continue to have access to the service, at times which are most convenient to them.”
