VIOLENT disorder spread last night to areas including Woodford Green and continued in Walthamstow, although damage was limited in comparison to other regions of London.
At least three fires were reported in Walthamstow, and there were what police have described as "minor" incidents in Buckhurst Hill, Essex.
Two shops in Station Road, Chingord, were attacked at 2am last night.
Businesses were also vandalised in Leytonstone High Road and Leyton High Road.
The incidents were part of a third night of violence in the capital which was sparked after a man was shot dead by police on the Walthamstow and Tottenham border last week.
A carpet shop was set alight in Woodford Green High Road at around 1.50am, and shop windows were smashed in George Lane, South Woodford.
The fire brigade said the Woodford blaze was brought under control at 2.15am and a joint investigation with police has been launched.
In Walthamstow, the emergency services say they were called to at least three disturbances.
The fire brigade said small fires, mainly in bins, had been started in several streets.
Addison Road in Walthamstow Village experienced disorder at 9.20pm. A blaze was started in Westbury Road, next to the Walthamstow job centre, at 11.45pm.
A third fire was reported in Gillards Way at 5.20am.
Yesterday afternoon the Met announced it had introduced special powers allowing officers to stop and search suspects in Waltham Forest without reasonable suspicion in an attempt to combat future potential violence.
Across Waltham Forest and Redbridge many shops closed early and staff were sent home in the middle of yesterday afternoon.
Pubs such as the Red Lion in Leytonstone High Road also decided to shut amid concerns over possible violence.
The 24-hour Tesco store in Leytonstone closed at 10pm on police advice.
However damage was minor, in contrast to areas such as Croydon which witnessed huge fires last night.
Details are still emerging about much of the violence and looting.
It has also emerged today that at least 50 businesses in the borough have been affected by looting or vandalism in the last few days.
